Two dozen hikers rescued from side of cliff by MCSO

Two dozen hikers was rescued in the Tonto National Forest overnight by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue teams.

According to MCSO, a church group went for a hike at Mount Ord, northeast of the valley, on Saturday afternoon.  The area is about five miles north of Sunflower.

At about 5pm, a member of the group called MCSO deputies for help.  He told them the group was trapped on the side of a cliff, and that it was too dark to find their way out.

Search and rescue teams were called out to find the hikers.  By 1am on Sunday, all 24 members of the church group were located and safely flown to the ground by Fox, the MCSO helicopter.

There were no major injuries reported.
