Two kids thrown from vehicle in Sunday afternoon crash

Two children were hurt after they were thrown from a vehicle in a crash on Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened near 83rd Avenue and McDowell at about 10:30am on Sunday. Fire crews say three children were involved in this two-vehicle crash. A 2-year-old girl was in a car seat that was not properly secured to the vehicle. A 5-year-old boy was also unrestrained and was thrown from the vehicle.

The two children were taken to a nearby hospital. Initial reports indicated that both children were critically hurt, but crews say both children are at Phoenix Children's Hospital in stable condition with superficial injuries.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies are investigating exactly how the crash happened.
