2 officers injured, Suspect ID'd in deadly OIS

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that left two officers injured Saturday afternoon.  Both officers are recovering on Sunday, police say, and the victim and suspect have been identified.
The suspect who was killed has been identified as 43-year-old Francis Clark. During the incident, a Phoenix Police sergeant and an officer were both shot, but fortunately neither of them were seriously injured.
Earlier on Saturday there was a massive police response on 37th Avenue and McDowell. More than 30 police units were on scene.
Officials say an officer and a sergeant were involved in this shooting and both are going to be OK.
Both sustained non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, just after 1:00 p.m., officers responded to a possible home invasion call at Shadetree Apartment Complex, located at 3737 west McDowell Road.
Upon entering the complex, officers found one woman deceased on the ground, but they did not see an armed man.
A short time later, police say the suspect started firing at officers.
One officer was grazed by a bullet and the other officer was hit right above the waist line, according to officials.
Police returned gunfire and the suspect was killed.
On Sunday, police say both the officer and sergeant who were struck are doing well.
The woman who was found dead in the home has been identified on Sunday as 41-year-old Mercy Cordova.
Police say it appears Clark shot and killed Cordova, who was his girlfriend of several years.
We spoke to a young man who was right across the street working at a barber shop when it all unfolded.
"I thought were in the hood, you know, gunshots we hear them all the time and then all the sudden a bunch of cops came... For us, personally, it sucked because we had to stop working…no more clients can come in, but other than that it's a target for that other family," said Juan Bustilos.
Officers believe all suspects are accounted for, but they still urge anyone with information to call police or Silent Witness immediately.
If you’re heading out tonight, McDowell road, from 35th Avenue to 39th Avenue is still shut down.
Police expect the roadway to remain closed for the next several hours as they continue the investigation.
