Two young girls shot, killed by father in double-murder and suicide attempt

Two young girls were shot and killed and their father is on life support after an apparent double-murder and suicide attempt.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says it happened just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday night after the girls' mother called 911 saying she received a threat from her estranged husband, who had their two daughters with him.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the man refused to let them in. Soon after, deputies forced their way into the home after hearing gun shots. After getting into the home, deputies found a 5-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital where she later died.

Her 7-year-old sister, also suffering from a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girls' father was taken to a hospital where he is on life support.

The investigation is ongoing by deputies.
