Union calls off planned transit strike

A union representing hundreds of Phoenix bus drivers says a planned strike to take effect at Midnight has been canceled for now.

"Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1433 has placed a hold on pending strike actions but remains ready, at a moments notice, to take action if negotiations deteriorate," said ATU International Vice President Bob Hykaway.

The union and a contractor the city uses, Transdev, had been in negotiations to establish an a new contract.

As of Monday night the two sides had not come to an agreement, but with talks continuing the strike appears off the table for now.
