AP: GOP candidates win in various statewide races
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- The Associated Press is projecting that GOP candidates will win a number of the Arizona's statewide offices.
Governor
The Associated Press is projecting a second term for Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
Secretary of State
The Associated Press is projecting GOP's Steve Gaynor to win the race, defeating Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs.
Gaynor spent nearly $2 million of his own money to beat state Sen. Minority Leader Katie Hobbs. Gaynor emphasized his business experience as the owner of a Los Angeles printing plant. Critics labeled him a wealthy donor who paid his way into the race.
As Arizona does not have the office of Lieutenant Governor, the Secretary of State is the first in line to succeed the Governor, in the event of the Governor's resignation, impeachment, or death.
Meanwhile, Hobbs' campaign released a statement that criticized the Associated Press's decision to project Gaynor as the winner of the race.
"The Associated Press has incorrectly called the Secretary of State race in Arizona with a razor-thin margin and hundreds of thousands of ballots remaining to be counted," said Niles Harris, Hobbs' campaign manager.
Attorney General
The Associated Press is projecting that GOP's Mark Brnovich will defeat Democratic candidate January Contreras.
State Treasurer
The Associated Press is projecting that GOP's Kimberly Yee will defeat Democratic candidate Mark Manoil.
Superintendent of Public Instruction
Democratic candidate Kathy Hoffman is leading against GOP's Frank Riggs.
State Mine Inspector
The Associated Press is projecting that GOP's Joe Hart will defeat Democratic candidate William "Bill" Pierce.
Corporation Commissioners
Voters are tasked with selecting two people for the Corporation Commission. The Associated Press is projecting that GOP's Justin Olson and Rodney Glassman will win the two seats.
