WITTMANN, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A person has been arrested, following a standoff on the US 60 near Wittmann Wednesday afternoon.
The standoff resulted in ADOT closing down the highway for some time. The announcement was made on ADOT's verified Twitter page.
According to Surprise Police, they, along with several other law enforcement agencies, responded to a report of a person who has barricaded him/herself inside the vehicle with a weapon. The suspect has since been identified as Gregory Rodvelt. The 65-year-old man is reportedly from Sun City West.
The standoff, according to Surprise Police, took place in the area of Grand Avenue and Center Street, but officers first received a call in the area of Bell and Grand, of a person brandishing a weapon. The car was then traced to Wittmann, where the suspect reportedly refused to come out.
Police were eventually able to get in touch with the suspect via telephone, where he said he had a weapon on his and is not coming out. The suspect eventually left the vehicle, after SWAT officers were able to maneuver into a "position of advantage". Rodvelt was later placed into custody.
According to Surprise Police, Rodvelt is facing several felony charges in connection with the incident.
The highway has since been reopened.
