Valley gun store supplies cannons to new Batman movie

AVONDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - It's one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and a valley gunshop was part of the Hollywood production. Two cannons which are featured in the Batman vs. Superman movie came from an Avondale business.

Movie producers rented two of the cannons from AZ Firearms in Avondale for the major motion picture, and the scenes they were used in made the final cut.

Batman Vs. Superman Dawn of Justice got off to an impressive start raking in nearly $28 million Thursday night. An Avondale gun shop owner was especially excited for the movie to come out.

Danny Todd got a call from the films producers, although he didn't get to meet the stars, he was on the set for the filming which happened about a year and a half ago.

"They took a week to paint them, then we took a week to film them in New Mexico, a solid week, and they're in 10 seconds of the movie towards the end," said Danny Todd.

The cannons were built in the 1940's and were used by the U.S. Military in World War 2, the Korean War, and even the Iraq War.

"These are World War 2, they shoot a shell this big, and they're good for about 3-4 miles," said Todd.

He says he cannot say much about the scene the movies are in because it's towards the end and could give away the plot.

"I can't tell you why they used the cannons, I thought Batman was going to carry them on his shoulder and shoot em, but he didn't," said Todd.

For those planning to see the action flick, keep an eye out for these big guns.

"But it's a great scene, and they fired the guns in the movie," said Todd.

Todd was invited to the Hollywood Premier on Tuesday which he attended. He says it wasn't until then when he actually saw the movie during the premiere that he knew the cannons had made the final cut.
