Valley HVAC companies working overtime

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The Valley is about to get a big dose of heat over the next several days, and the last thing anyone needs is for their air conditioner to break down.

Air conditioners are working overtime in this excessive heat, and that means techs who service and repair them are doing the same.

"Very busy I was working until 9:30 last night," said Daniel Jones.

HVAC technician Daniel Jones with Howard Air didn't get very much of a break last night. He was back at work at 7 a.m. servicing a unit at a north Phoenix home.

"As soon as the heat hits we start getting the calls coming in," said Jones.

Service Manager Justin Hathaway was taking calls while in the field, he says calls for service will double this weekend alone.

"A lot of maintenance calls are still on schedule because it's pre-season for a lot of people, and of course a lot of calls come in for break downs, their air conditioner quit working," said Justin Hathaway.

Hathaway says to listen to your unit for signs of trouble. They include: if your air conditioning unit constantly runs, if you hear a droning noise, or if it stops blowing cold air altogether.

"A lot of times it's a refrigerant issue when we get into the high temps, a lot of times the strain as people tend to set the A/C really low and it causes the unit to fail," said Hathaway.

To keep your unit running smoothly they recommend you set the thermostat to 78-82 degrees, pre-cool your A/C unit at night, and change filters on a regular basis.

At this point in the season, HVAC companies throughout the valley are pretty much full staffed and ready to answer any emergency call any time day or night.
