PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun has already rebuilt hundreds of homes this year, but this is the first time they're rebuilding an entire block.
"We are working on four homes in west Phoenix today; two directly across the street from each other and one a little further down the block," Kelly Watson said. "Our purpose is to try to rebuild a block, basically."
Watson, who's executive director at Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun, knows there's a lot of work to do, but she also knows it's all worth it.
We typically give priority to seniors, people with young children, and veterans," she said. "They have to be income qualifications and it has to be people who have great need."
The non-profit worked with the local community center to identify families who needed to most help. At least two of the homes are getting a new roof, new flooring and more.
"For this particular home, we're taking out all the windows, we're putting in new kitchen cabinets -- quite a bit of work to do," Kevin Rayski said.
Volunteers from Lowe's stores rolled up their sleeves. Lowe's has contributed over $16.7 million to Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun to revitalize communities throughout the country since 2007, including these rebuilds.
All of the work should be complete by tomorrow.
