Valley non-proft sends care packages to troops across the world

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - It's a brand new facility for an amazing organization.

"We're going from about 3,500 square feet to now about 5,700 square feet," Sarah Perry said. "We're going to be able to support even more troops with our great new space."

As director of fundraising for the non-profit Packages From Home, Sarah Perry is still soaking it in and spending only her second day in their new downtown Glendale location.

The new space is a reflection of how far their work has come.

It all began in 2004 with a military mom sending care packages out of her garage to her son and his troop, then growing to use the space at Phoenix Memorial Hospital for 10 years.

Now they're here with thank you letters from some of the tens of thousands of military men and women around the world they've brought smiles to. This all after spending about $10,000 a month on postage alone.

"It has just expanded and blown up into this wonderful place that you're seeing here today," Perry said.

It's a place that's bigger than anywhere they've ever worked out of and with boxes to unpack and care packages to send, they need your help to make this move as easy as possible.

"Everybody's been great so far, but we still need more help," Perry said. "We need volunteers, we need monetary donations to help us with our moving expenses and our setup fees."

The more of our help they get, the less of their money they have to spend and what they save can go directly to where it belongs.

"There are still about 150,000 troops that are deployed, currently, in more than 150 countries around the world," Perry said. "So even though it's been amazing helping all these folks, we still have more to help."
