Valley woman arrested after dog dies in hot car

A valley woman has been arrested after her dog died when she left the animal inside a hot car.

Phoenix police say 45-year-old Deanna Zapata left her dog in her car for about five hours while she was inside a self-storage business last weekend.

According to court paperwork, when Zapata went back to her car, she found her little Yorkie dead.

Zapata told police she left the air conditioning running inside the car, but the dog was warm when she was found inside the car.

Zapata has been charged with animal cruelty.
