PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Tourists have already started arriving in the United Kingdom to witness the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and one of those tourists is a Valley woman.
Jane Bemmerl and her best friend are traveling across the pond to the U.K. on Wednesday to be part of the pomp and circumstance. The Phoenix woman has been a royal fanatic, and is looking forward to getting a chance to see the new royal couple.
"I love history, and that's history and in the making," said Bemmerl, a self-proclaimed history buff and royal enthusiast. She says her love of everything royal began more than 30 years ago.
"I think my first my interest was when Lady Di[ana] got married," said Bemmerl. "I lived in Ohio and my dad and I got up at three or four in the morning and watched it, the pomp and circumstance."
This isn't the first time Bemmerl has been in the United Kingdom for a royal wedding. She and her best friend traveled to London in 2011 to be a part of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding day crowds. The pair camped out overnight in a tent they bought to get a front row seat, as the royal couple drove by.
"It's kind of an escape, I guess for everybody," said Bemmerl. "You're just having fun. You're not worrying about anything at home. You're just in the fairytale of it all."
Bemmerl admits her decision to travel across the Atlantic to be part of a wedding of someone she's never met has been met with some sneers, but that's not stopping her.
"Some people get excited with me, and other people, like my husband, think I'm crazy, but it's fun," said Bemmerl. "You know, life's short."
Bemmerl said as soon as it was announced that Prince Harry and Markle were getting married in May, they booked a hotel room for every weekend to make sure they had a place to stay.
On the day of the wedding, Bemmerl is slated to speak with FOX 10 AZAM's weekend crew, via phone, to talk about her experience.
