Visitors enjoying the valley's warm weather

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Our warmer than usual February weather means busier than usual hiking trails here in the valley. But not everyone is prepared for or ready to beat the heat while hiking.

Four rescues took place this weekend, and warm weather is still in the forecast.

Visitors love the warmer weather, but the people who live here say they could use winter temperatures a little cooler.

"It's just getting hot so quick, and there is so much to do outside in Arizona, it's unfortunate you only have a short amount of time before it's too hot to do anything," said Jodi Rall.

One of those outside activities is hiking. Camelback Mountain was very busy Monday morning with visitors from Canada and Wisconsin.

"I'm very hot, this 75 degree is like 50 degrees more than what I'm used to, it's fun," said Brian Smith.

Smith brought his son to hike Camelback Mountain.

"So he wanted to climb it, so that's why we're here, let him climb it, he knows what he's doing, so we'll find out if he doesn't come back we'll know," said Smith.

Phoenix Fire says they have seen a slight increase in mountain rescues, saying it doesn't have to be in the triple digits for the heat to affect hikers. Warnings and advice are posted everywhere at the start of the trailheads.

One group of friends from Chicago and New York say they were prepared.

"We came prepared with coffee and water. We're here with water, we're going to hold it together and do what we can, we will not be rescued, that's the plan" said a hiker.

They made it but said they were not going all the way up. The resort they were staying at said the concierge warns people to bring plenty of water before they hit the mountain.
