Volunteers renovate child crisis center

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Making a difference, by helping children in need. That is what some volunteers are doing by renovating a shelter for children.

A child crisis center in Phoenix is getting a makeover; we're talking new sheets, furniture, and fresh paint. It's all a part of National Make a Difference Day coming up this weekend. The center is home to 28 kids.

"The kids here have really nothing, and they come from really challenging lives and backgrounds, so we thought if we can give this a facelift, we can give them the sense of love, coming home on some level," said Jennifer Adams.

A safe-haven for children facing abuse or neglect.

"It's also really exciting to see their faces while we've been getting ready for this. They're helping pick out the paint colors with us, and this afternoon after school they're going to help us paint the walls," said Adams.

Adams along with a team of volunteers are making the center a hip and trendy spot for kids.

"We've been here since early this morning, and when we got started the walls were green and peach. Kind of loud and bright, so what we're doing is giving it a minor facelift with some tranquil calm colors because the kids have pretty chaotic live. So we're trying to soothe it down here," she said.

They've thought of everything, from art to decorative rugs, fresh pillows, and even bath towels.

"The kids will hopefully realize that all of us love them and care about them, so when they come home here, they will feel good like they're getting something special in their lies," said Adams.

Each person is making a difference by helping a child feel a little more at home.
