West valley couple survive bee attack

- A west valley couple was attacked by a swarm of bees, and the man almost didn't make it. He was resuscitated on the way to the hospital after being stung.

Bees were still buzzing hours after the swarm attacked the couple at their Buckeye Valley home.

"The homeowners here were out in the backyard, they were just cutting their trees, it was a normal and beautiful day, and all of a sudden the wife started hearing the husband screaming," said Doug Matteson with MCSO.

The bees stung the 72-year-old man and his wife multiple times; the man was allergic to bees. Firefighters arrived and found the man with no pulse and not breathing.

"We got the call that we had someone deceased from a bee sting," said Matteson.

Paramedics worked on the man as they rushed him to a hospital and it was there that the lifeless man got a second chance at life. MCSO deputies say the man was revived.

Neighbors came home and are relieved to hear the man survived.

"I'm grateful that he's doing well, that's scary, and I can't imagine having that happen to my loved one or something," said Chelsea John.

First responders say the bees poured out of a wall in the shed. Firefighters used water and foam to kill off the swarm. But like the home owner, dozens of bees managed to survive.
