Woman dead following afternoon crash in Phoenix

Phoenix Police officials say a woman is dead, following a crash involving two cars Thursday afternoon.

According to a statement released by Det. Marianne Ramirez, the woman who died was driving a car with four passengers, including three children, inside at the time of the crash, which happened at the 3400 block of E. Roeser Road. Officers responded to the scene just before 2:00 p.m.

The woman, according to Phoenix Police, was driving east on Roeser when she veered to the right onto a dirt shoulder. She attempted to regain control of the car but over-corrected, which sent the car back on to the road, where it collided with a car that was headed west.

The female driver, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital where she later died. Of the four passengers inside that car, one, a six-year-old girl, suffered critical injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified by Phoenix Police as an adult male, was taken to the hospital as a precaution. An adult female passenger in that car suffered critical injuries.
