Woman found dead in Phoenix home; suspect arrested

Police have arrested a woman in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old mother of three on Oct. 15.

Phoenix police say 26-year-old Vanessa Bedell has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. During their investigation, police determined that Bedell shot and killed Jacqueline Catano inside her home near Loop 202 and 30th Street.

Police also collected evidence from the home that was found in Bedell's possession.

On Oct. 15, a woman was murdered in east-central Phoenix inside her home. The horrifying scene took place in an apartment with the couple's three children inside.

The woman was later identified as Jacqueline Monique Catano. Police responded to the apartment near 30th Street and Roosevelt Wednesday evening.

Initially, investigators were not sure whether the young mother of three was shot or beaten; there was a lot of blood and a lot of work ahead for crime scene investigators. The murder has shocked neighbors.

"It was a tragedy, real peaceful around here, not that much violence. Everybody is happy around here, it's sad to hear that an innocent woman lost her life," said neighbor Shemetri Coker.

Police say the woman's husband called 9-1-1 saying he heard a noise in the kitchen and found his wife's body. He said a strange person knocked on the door earlier in the night and thought that person may have come back and killed her. Police held the husband for questioning.

"Ah, that is too bad, because especially for the kids to be there," said Vince Martinez.

Three children under the age of 10 were in the apartment, they were not hurt, neighbors are thinking of them.

"That is really terrible, bad for the guy, especially in front of the little ones," said Jose Puente
