Woman hit & killed by suspected DUI driver

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a 58-year-old woman was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Glendale on Saturday night.

Officers with Glendale Police say 34-year-old Erick Vazquez Barragan was driving on a suspended license when he hit the 58-year-old woman at about 9:30 p.m., Saturday night at Bethany Home Road and 65th Avenue.

The victim has been identified as Demonia Sanders, and Glendale police say she was not in the crosswalk when she was struck. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say Vazquez-Barragan had been drinking. He was arrested on charges of DUI and driving on a suspended license. Bethany Home Road was shut down for several hours for the police investigation.
