Phoenix Police: Woman, toddler killed; speed, impairment are suspected factors

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A woman and her 3-year-old daughter are dead following a crash on Sunday night in Phoenix.

Phoenix Police have identified the victims as 27-year-old Tania Robledo-Muniz and 3-year-old Litzi Robledo.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the crash happened near 55th Avenue and Van Buren just after 9 p.m.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis stated, "Investigators determined a Chevy Silverado was eastbound on Van Buren at a high rate of speed, crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with a sedan occupied by an adult female driver and her 3-year-old daughter."

The 27-year-old driver of the car had to be pulled from it and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters say the 3-year-old girl was restrained in a car seat that did not appear to have been properly installed in the car. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, however, on Monday, March 4, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of a pickup truck that was also involved in the crash was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver remains in treatment for a serious injury.

Firefighters say both drivers were not wearing seatbelts.

Lewis says speed and impairment are suspected as factors in this collision and the investigation is ongoing.
