Woman likely swept away in wash in Cochise County

Search and Rescue crews assisted deputies from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department in searching for a woman who got stuck in a flooded wash Saturday afternoon.
A white sedan got stuck in a wash in the High Knolls area around 1:00 p.m. Saturday, according to officials with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff's Deputies responded along with Search and Rescue, Sierra Vista Fire personnel and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter.
A ranger located the vehicle roughly 200 yards west on the crossing, but no one was inside the car, according to officials.
Search and Rescue personal assisted paramedics in searching the running wash for the driver of the car, who has been identified as 64-year-old Joan Buttner of McNeal.
Crews were not able to locate Buttner before the sun set Saturday evening. Officials say the search has been suspended for the night.
Rescuers will return to the wash in the morning to continue recovery efforts.
