Woman pulled from burning mobile home

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Tommy says it was around 11:30 Tuesday night when the mobile home next door caught on fire.

He called 911 and immediately ran over to try to help.

"There was nothing I could do," he said. "I banged on there a couple times and ran and called 911."

When Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the home near Apache Trail and Crismon, they found the woman, described to be in her 60s, unresponsive inside the home. They shattered the glass to get to her.

"It sounded like something pounding with a hammer and we were sort of almost asleep and I heard it again," Louise Wilson said. "My husband said, 'what's going on?' then I heard glass break, someone yell 'it's right here!'"

Louise and Gary Wilson describe the flames as sky-high and 10-to-15-feet in the air. They say they noticed thick, black smoke billowing from the mobile home as their neighbor was being treated out front.

"My wife is a nurse, she thought there would be no chance because they were doing CPR for so long, but in fact they did get a pulse, so that was good news," Gary said.

Tommy is grateful for the efforts of the first responders and says they are the true heroes.

"I say hello to her, she's not here very much, she's only been back from Pinetop a couple days," he said.
