Woman shot after refusing to give up purse during robbery

A woman was shot after refusing to give up her purse during an armed robbery in south Phoenix.

Phoenix police say the victim was walking with a man in a neighborhood near 16th Street and Southern at 1:30 a.m., on Friday morning, when four men approached them and demanded the woman's purse.

The woman refused to give up her purse and told the suspects they would have to shoot her to get it.

One of the suspects responded by shooting the woman in her arm before snatching the purse.

The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

No description of the suspects has been released.
