WWE star Enzo Amore fired after rape allegation in Phoenix

A WWE wrestler was fired after Phoenix police confirmed they are investigating him for rape.

Fans know him as Enzo Amore, the cruiserweight champion of the WWE. His real name is Eric Arndt and on Tuesday, the WWE announced on their website that he has been released.

The alleged victim says the assault happened at the Clarendon Hotel near 3rd Avenue and Indian School on October 19th. She went to an area hospital four days after the incident and the staff alerted police.

The investigation into the assault became public this week when the accuser wrote about the alleged rape on her Twitter account.

Phoenix police say there is an open investigation, but no arrest has been made.

The WWE first suspended Arndt, stating, "WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving sexual harassment or sexual assault." Then on Tuesday afternoon, the company put out a new online statement: "WWE has come to terms on the release of Eric Arndt (Enzo Amore)."

Phoenix police did not say when they expect to make a decision about an arrest.
