Two arrested after reported kidnapping in Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (KSAZ) - UPDATE: Deputies say two people have been booked in connection with this incident. 29-year-old Charles Fitzpatrick of Clarkdale was booked on felony charges of vehicle theft, property damage and endangerment.

25-year-old Virginia "Samantha" Reyes was charged with booked on charges of vehicle theft and hindering prosecution.

Deputies say Reyes initially stated she was forced into the 2016 Dodge Charger by Fitzpatrick, and denied any involvement in stealing the vehicle. Deputies say a rental vehicle was found floating in the Verde River, and a rock was found placed over the gas pedal. Fitzpatrick admitted to dumping the vehicle in the river following an argument with a man over money that was allegedly owed to Reyes for the rental vehicle.

The Yavapai Sheriff's Office says a 14-year-old teen and his mother were kidnapped on Friday morning.

According to YCSO, the teen and his 30-year-old mother, who may be known as "Samantha," were kidnapped at gunpoint in the 2500 block of Village Drive at 6:00 a.m. "Samantha" was forced into a grey, 2016 Dodge Charger at gunpoint.

The vehicle has a broken driver's side window and a Florida license plate BPV4583.

The suspect driving the Dodge Charger is described as a Hispanic man who is armed with a shotgun.

The sheriff's office also says a silver Dodge Neon may have been involved in the kidnapping and the vehicle may contain two suspects and the 14-year-old teen, who was taken during the confrontation involving his mother.

By 1:20 p.m., YCSO detectives advised that 'Samantha' and her son were located in Clarkdale in good condition.

"Detectives are interviewing the pair to determine the circumstances regarding the incident this morning. Detectives are still looking for both suspect vehicles - Suspect identities are pending as detectives attempt to sort out the circumstances. The motive for the original confrontation has not been disclosed, but detectives have indicated the parties involved know each other," stated YCSO's Dwight D'Evelyn.

D'Evelyn added, "Detectives have advised the Dodge Neon has been located and they have very positive leads on the whereabouts of the Dodge Charger - They would like to thank the public for the many calls providing details not previously known about this case. The vehicles are no longer wanted at this time."

Officals say interviews with the mother and her son are ongoing in an attempt to determine if criminal activity occurred in front of the home.
