Sen. Carlyle Begay says he did what he felt was in the best interests of his district when he became the 16th and deciding Senate vote last weekend.
He says he weighed the certainty of cuts in the budget to specific district needs and will have no problem going back home and explaining his vote.
Begay represents District 7, which covers the Navajo Nation and areas south to Show Low. Begay negotiated with Republicans to get money for tribal transportation projects and community colleges.
Senate assistant minority leader Steve Farley says the Democratic caucus is disappointed that Begay was "bought off" and got so little in return.
