Bosse Tools creates ergonomic shovel

They were classmates at Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, and now they're business partners who have patented a new invention to help make yard work easier.

It's an ergonomic shovel that is less stressful on the body.

A day spent in the garden can calm the mind, but be a real pain in the back.

That's how Stephen Walden first came up with the idea for an ergonomic shovel.

"You get out of bed, you're like I'm sore, I'm tired, but I was using a shovel yesterday, so that's totally cool, but then you think about why can't there be a better way to be in less pain," said Stephen Walden.

The key to reduced pain is the design. Stephen and Bosse Tools co-founder Aaron Gagleard created a shovel with a patented rotating center handle.

"I have tons more leverage, my posture is more upright, your wrist is a more natural position, so it is hitting your back, your shoulders, and your wrist," said Gagleard.

By turning and locking the handle into various positions, the user combines multiple steps into 1.

"Traditionally I was gonna have to dig, walk over, and dump this material. But now by angling this handle, I can do that all in one motion," said Walden.

And an Arizona State University study found that compared to a traditional shovel, the Bosse Tools shovel reduced back strain by 30%.

In addition to the spade, Bosse Tools has also made a flat head shovel, and a snow shovel, I imagine this one will be pretty popular in the northeast, and while you can't get these tools in a store, yet you can pre-order all three of them online.

Stephen and Aaron plan to expand their line of other tools like rakes, brooms, pitchforks, and edgers. But the company name will stay the same. A nod to their favorite rapper; Rick Ross, aka "The Boss."

So does "The Boss" have one of these shovels?

"Not yet, we're trying to get him one, that's the goal by the end of this thing, we need him to be using our tools," said Gagleard.

Stephen and Aaron say they've already received orders from big companies and individual buyers.
