Casa Del Mar apartments: residents upset over conditions

Residents at one Glendale apartment complex say they are sick and tired of paying rent, and living in squalor.

They say management takes way too long to make needed repairs.

The property manager says bad tenants are a big part of the problem.

Residents say when things break at the Casa Del Mar Apartments, the management does not fix them, like the broken window in Shanae Williams' apartment.

How long has she been waiting? "Two years," said Shanae Williams.

That's just the start of the problems.

"We have put in work orders for the disposal, and the sink in the bathroom doesn't work," said Williams.

Shanae says the sink has leaked for over two years.

"Turn the sink on you cannot wash your hands, we have pots down there," she said.

Outside a covered parking roof fell a month ago on some cars; it's still on the ground.

"This thing fell on my dads car, still hasn't paid for it, busted the whole window sitting here for a month and a half," said Matthew Chavez.

The manager acknowledges there are problems on the site; he is trying to make repairs, but he cannot keep up.

Chuck Kersey, the property manager, says drugs and crime at Casa Del Mar bring the place down. For example, the pool is green he said because someone stole the chlorine tablets, and he is in the process of cleaning it.

The residents' patience is starting to wear thin.

Although some tenants are unhappy about conditions, they have not been in touch with the City of Glendale. Glendale officials say they have received no complaints about the apartments.
