John and Edie Theiss said their vows all over again at a ceremony in Mesa on Saturday afternoon. The couple first married back on February 7, 1955. Their original groomsman, bridesmaid and ring bearer all made it back for the big celebration.
John and Edie got engaged in high school and were married at 19-years-old. It took six months of planning to pull off Saturday's wedding. That's when John actually "re-proposed" to his wife.
"It wasn't easy," said John Theiss of his 60-year marriage. "There were rough patches, as would be the case for any marriage I believe, but what it really boiled down to was mutual trust and respect and we've honored that for 60 years."
"We've made it through 60, I don't know how much longer we'll have," said Edie Theiss. "We live life to the fullest and we try to fight old age as best as we can."
The couple has three children, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren--with a sixth on the way.
