Free dental care at Risas Dental locations

A labor of love this Labor Day in the form of free dental care.

A group of valley dentists and staff members are laboring for free this holiday, helping those who normally cannot afford to see a dentist.

The line wrapped around the outside of Risa's Dental and Braces on Thomas Road Monday morning. Some were standing outside for hours to get free dental care.

"I got here around 6:10," said Erika Hernandez.

Hernandez is a college student who came in for a cleaning. It's a simple procedure she cannot otherwise afford on her tight budget.

"It's not like I have dental insurance or medical insurance available, yes I can get it from somewhere else but being a student it's very, very hard," she said.

"Dr. Lin, you're doing good," said Hernandez.

This is the third annual Labor of Love event for dentists, hygienists, and staff who all donated their time and talents to those who may need it the most.

"You know what, it's really nice to give back to the community," said Lezette Osuma.

Each patient was able to choose from one of four available treatments. Teeth cleaning, a complete exam with x-rays, a cavity filling, or extraction.

"We'll see about 75-100 patients. It's about what we can see in 4 hours with doctors at four locations," said Dr. Nicholas Porter.

Dr. Porter, the founder of the company, said it's all about giving back and paying it forward.

"Sometimes we can detect cancer in patients who wouldn't go to the dentist otherwise," said Porter.

"I am very, very thankful for them, and having this great heart," said Hernandez.

Hernandez received a clean bill of health, but it's all smiles, grateful for the generosity.

The dental care was offered until Noon; organizers are already planning the 4th Annual Labor of Love event.
