An officer placed a highway marker near the spot where Det. John Hobbs lost his life.
Dozens of phoenix police officers and firefighters came out to show their support.
Hobbs' wife and three kids were also there at the dedication.
Hobbs was killed in the of duty one year ago on Tuesday.
He was chasing after an armed fugitive near Indian School Road and 42nd Avenue.
Even though he'd been shot, he continued to fire at the suspect and ended up saving his partner's life.
"It breaks my heart to think that john has been gone from our lives for a year. March 3, 2014, was the worst day of my life, both as a wife and mother. John was taken from us far too soon," said Cathy Hobbs.
Hobbs' wife and kids were also given a historical marker to take home with them.
The marker was signed by the chief and Hobbs' entire squad in the Major Offender Bureau.
