(FOX NEWS) - A Texas mother says her daughter was kicked off an elite cheerleading squad because her hair is curly. But cheer officials said it was because of the mother's "negativity" and unwillingness to compromise.
Woodlands Elite Cheer told 11-year-old Makayla Fallaw she needed to straighten her hair to match the hairstyles of her teammates.
Her mother Jenny met with officials to explain that straightening "would destroy her hair."
Team director Kevin Tonner said they attempted to find "a happy medium."
