Man dies in Nogales Wash while trying to cross from Mexico

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Mexican national has died after getting swept away in the Nogales Wash while trying to cross into Arizona.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada says U.S. Border Patrol rescued one man and recovered the body of another shortly after 8 a.m. Friday by the Nogales Arizona Port of Entry.

Estrada says the victim was in his 60s and had no identification.

The survivor, 25-year-old Agustin Corrales Zuniga, who is from Sinaloa, Mexico, told authorities he did not know the deceased.

According to Zuniga, they were following two guides who were trying to taking advantage of flood control channels to cross.

Estrada says Zuniga is in Border Patrol custody.

The victim's body has been turned over to the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner.
