'John Doe' at St. Joseph's Hospital identified

PHOENIX (AP) - Officials at a Phoenix hospital say they now know the identity of a patient who was brought in more than a week ago with a brain injury.

St. Joseph's Hospital spokeswoman Sara Baird says the man was identified Wednesday after the hospital told the media about an unidentified unconscious man being treated for a brain hemorrhage.

However, Baird says privacy laws mean the hospital can't release the man's identity now that it's known.

According to the hospital, the man was found unresponsive in an unoccupied home near Salt River Road and Broadway on Dec. 30.

Social workers had been unsuccessful in finding more information about him.

He was described to be in his mid 40's, approximately 5'7" tall, and weighs about 180 pounds.
