Maricopa County deputies investigating deadly shooting in Tonopah

Sheriff's deputies are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a deadly shooting in Tonopah that occurred late Saturday night.

Officials were called to the 7600 block of North 388th Avenue just before 11 p.m. Saturday after a young man was shot, according to Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department.

During the investigation, deputies learned that 45-year-old Jason Wood shot 22-year-old Karl Charleyboy following an altercation.

The two men were fighting in a wash approximately 50 yards south of 7906 N. 388th Avenue, Enriquez said. Charleyboy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are still investigating, trying to determine what the two were fighting about. Wood told sheriff's detectives he was in fear for his life at the time of the shooting, Enriquez said.

At this time, no charges have been filed.
