Mother dies after giving birth to quadruplets; how families manage with multiple babies

It's a story that has captured the hearts of people across the country, and really across the globe.

A valley mother dies after giving birth to a set of quads. The babies are healthy and now the dad is facing the challenge of raising the babies on his own.

FOX 10's own Gayle Jansen is a mother of triplets and explains some of the challenges of raising multiples.

"It was just really sad to think about these babies now having their mother around," said Jansen. "I really started praying for the family because I realized it is just a real tragedy, these kids will grow up without their mother."

The quadruplets were born at Banner Good Samaritan on Thursday, it's the same hospital where Gayle had her triplets 15 weeks premature. The girls are now four years old. They're happy, healthy, and full of energy.

"Even though they had a really rough start they're doing awesome," she said.

We're told the Morales quadruplets are healthy and weigh between 2-3 pounds each. They're still at Banner Good Samaritan, that hospital specializes in multiple birth deliveries.

"They're so caring over there, I can just imagine they are just heartbroken over this whole situation. They really care about their patients and about their care, and they're 100% committed," said Jensen.

Erica's husband Carlos now cares for the babies all alone. The Morales family set up a website and in three days they've had more than $100,000 in donations. Gayle says they're going to need lots of help.

"It is really overwhelming to have that many babies all at once... when I'm alone with them I only have two hands, I don't have three hands, and when my husband and I are around there's two of us, we can grab one, but then there's always another one," she said.

The family of the mother who died did not have details on what caused her death.

If you'd like to help the family out they are asking for donations through their website here:
