Mother of Valley Fever victim raises awareness

A valley woman is spreading awareness about a lung infection that's common in the southwest.

After her son contracted Valley Fever, he's now in a medically-induced coma.

Dyssian Dupree started showing symptoms at the end of March and was hospitalized two weeks later.

"It's something definitely to be aware of... because before I got out here... I didn't even know anything about Valley fever... until they told me that my son had it. It's very scary... very, very scary...." said Shicobia Dupree.

Valley Fever can occur when dust is inhaled.  It's common in the desert where the soil is dry.  Symptoms include chest pain, a fever and rash.
