Numerous products tie-in with 50 Shades of Grey release

The book was an international sensation and a marketing juggernaut. Now, just in time for Valentine's Day, Fifty Shades of Grey, the movie is coming out in theatres.

Sellers of just about every tie-in product imaginable are looking for a huge sales boost.

Fifty Shades of Grey is about a young, beautiful woman named Anastasia Steele and her introduction to daring love adventures when she meets Christian Grey; a dashing, glamorous, and wealthy businessman.

It turned themes of dominance and submission into a massively successful entertainment franchise. From the book to inevitable movie, to a store shelf near you.

The adult store Fascinations has plenty of Fifty Shades of Grey merchandise next to a stack of the books. Masks, feathers, and red original furry cuffs. The ones you can break out of, not police-grade, seems there is quite the audience.

"The book came out a couple of years ago and we have seen more sales in this area than we used to, people have come out of the woodwork and come to us because they have been inspired by this book to try new things," said Amanda Crum.

One of those things is dressing the part.  Of course the symbol is fifty shades of grey, grey is the tie word by the notorious Christian Grey himself, and they sell one of those ties here, and it only costs eight bucks.

So who's buying these items; women mostly.

"Oh yes, that is our main demographic, women between 30-40 for themselves or with a friend, or partner," said Crum.

Fascinations is just one chain selling the products. At lotions and potions on Mill Avenue, we found a Fifty Shades of Grey Party Game and more. Online there's lots of Fifty Shades for sale on the website.

Retailers everywhere are hoping the new movie brings a wave of new business.

"Valentines day is going to be really exciting because the movie does come out on Valentine's Day, and it's a really busy time for us anyway," she said.

Target stores are also offering a limited number of Fifty Shades of Grey related products. We asked to speak with them on camera, but Target politely declined.

There are three Fifty Shades of Grey books, so if the first movie is a hit it's a safe bet there will be sequels and perhaps another marketing bonanza in the offing.
