Officials release new information about weekend plane crash in Sedona

Fox 10 has new developments following Saturday's plane crash that happened three miles southeast of Sedona.

Scott Mascher with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department says 71-year-old Charles McCurry, from Pennsylvania, is the owner and builder of the F-1 Rocket brand, single-engine plane. He has 34 years of experience as a pilot.

McCurry's was riding in the plane with 65-year-old Robert Coester from Gilbert, Ariz.

On Saturday morning, around 11:30, the single-engine aircraft lost power on its final approach into the Sedona Airport. McCurry took control of the aircraft and managed to land it in a safe area on Chavez Ranch Road.

The aircraft sustained heavy damage; and Coester sustained minor head injuries and a broken ankle.

McCurry sustained multiple facial fractures, facial lacerations and a contusion to his lungs, but the hospital says he is in stable condition.

The NTSB is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
