35-year-old Wyatt Cardany was found dead in the backyard of his ex-girlfriend's home near 14th Ave. & Union Hills in Phoenix. Police spent Friday morning collecting evidence.
It turns out that Cardany had an order of protection filed against him by his ex-girlfriend. According to that order, one of the places he was not allowed to go was the house where he was found dead.
Cardany's car was also found parked in the backyard, hidden behind a fence.
"There was like a stalker or something," said Daniel Forseth.
Cardany's ex-girlfriend took out an order of protection against him last summer. She said he was violent, armed, and threatened to hurt her.
"I just told her I would keep an eye out for her; I didn't see anything," said neighbor Ray Startzel.
Police say just after 3 a.m. Friday that Cardany went to his ex-girlfriend's house and got into an argument with someone in the backyard. Right now, police are not saying who that person is, or if that person was trying to protect Cardany's ex-girlfriend. Police say she left when the argument started, and when she came back she found Cardany dead in the backyard.
"Close to home, I got kids," said Startzel.
"It's pretty sketchy because it's really close to my house, and nothing really goes on around here," said Forseth.
Police are searching for the person of interest, the person who got into a fight with Cardany. Investigators want to know what exactly happened and are trying to figure out if this was a case of self-defense.
