PD: Stolen truck crashes into SUV, injures child

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly driving a stolen truck before colliding with an SUV near 83rd Avenue and Thomas on Sunday night. A child was badly injured.

Police say they were following a truck just before 10 p.m. on Sunday night. They ran the truck's license plate and saw it had been reported stolen.

Officers tried to pull the truck over, but the girl sped off. A short pursuit ensued before police backed off.

Shortly afterward, the truck was heading north on 83rd Avenue when it struck an SUV heading west on Thomas.

The SUV had five people inside. A 7-year-old girl was ejected and is said to have very serious injuries. Police say she was sitting in a booster seat, but it is unclear if she was restrained.

Police say the 17-year-old girl will face operating a stolen vehicle and failure to yield charges in addition to charges associated with the crash.

The intersection is closed while police investigate.
