PD: Victim crashes SUV after shooting

It was a rude awakening for residents in a Glendale neighborhood when a car slammed into a tree in a front yard near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road, but the crash wasn't the worst of it.

"I heard four gun shots, then a crash, then something hit my fence," said Mark Wise.

What hit Wise's fence may have been debris from what appeared to be just an accident across the street -- a light-colored Kia was wrapped around a tree.

A neighbor who watched the police activity became frightened when they found out the driver of the Kia, according to police, may have died from gun shot wounds.

"You're asleep at 2 and that could happen to anybody I guess," said the resident.

"I'm retired law enforcement, so I know the sound of guns, but it was something that I haven't heard," said Wise.

Phoenix police confirm shell casings were found down the street and believe the victim may have been shot in that area.

"That house usually has six cars out in front. Two of them were missing. He hit the little car.. the white car and then went into the tree," said Wise.

By Thursday afternoon, police could only confirm the victim was a man in his thirties and investigators continued gathering evidence in an effort to piece together what happened.
