New app lets you rate people

Could it be the worst app ever? Peeple lets you rate people like you would a restaurant. Some say it will take cyber-bullying to a whole new level. It plans to offer users the ability to rate others on a five point scale. If you sign up, you allow people to rate you, too.

We rate food, hotels and movies, and now a new app called Peeple wants to offer people the opportunity to rate each other. As you can imagine, this is stirring up a very animated debate. Once it launches, the Peeple app plans to offer users the opportunity to rate others on a 5-star scale in order to help determine the character of people they've encountered.

But critics, like Mashable Senior Tech Correspondent Christina Warren, are concerned about the app's ramifications. She calls this a terrible idea. And Warren is not alone, with a spirited conversation on Twitter highlighting the risks of the app, and even inspiring model Chrissy Teigen to take a stand.

But could all of this attention lead to a successful business? Now the app's creators insist that it is intended to foster positivity, but once the app launches in November, we'll see how people are truly rating people and, yes, Peeple.
