Police: Driver fell asleep at the wheel, crashed into power pole

Authorities say a teenaged driver lost control of their vehicle after falling asleep at the wheel near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road just after midnight.

Phoenix Police say the teen was either on his way to or from work at the time of the crash.  Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this case.

The teen was not injured and his name has not been released.

"The closure is expected to remain in affect throughout most of the day as SRP conducts repairs. As of right now the power outage is also effecting residences and businesses in the area. There is no estimated time of restoration at this point," stated Officer James Holmes.

Nearly eight hours after the collision, crews restored power in the area.
