Police investigate after SUV fatally hits man laying in road

A vehicle fatally hit a 47-year-old man laying in the road near Thomas and Hayden Road early Monday morning.

Scottsdale Police Sgt. Ben Hoster says an SUV was traveling on Thomas just before 3 a.m. when it hit a man laying in the road and dragged the body several feet.

The man was declared dead; his identity hasn't been released. 

Hoster says a bike and a backpack were laying nearby, but they don't believe they were involved in the crash.

According to police, the driver of the SUV is not considered a suspect.

Thomas Road was closed between Hayden and Granite Reef for a few hours while officers investigated.
