Police: woman charged with leaving child in hot car

Phoenix Police have arrested a woman who they say left her 4-month-old baby in a hot car.

Police were called Friday to the Ross store near 24th Street and Baseline when someone spotted a baby crying and alone in the vehicle.

Officers found the baby in the back of an SUV, covered in a blanket. All the windows were rolled up and the vehicle was locked.

Authorities tried to locate the owner in nearby businesses, but ultimately had to break a window to remove the child.

Firefighters transported the baby to a hospital for an evaluation.

The suspect, 32-year-old Erika Quintanilla came out as the ambulance was leaving. She told them she didn't think she would be inside for so long.

Quintanilla was arrested, charged with child endangerment, and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail.
