That's because The Donald has no filter. Having no filter, in fact, is his brand. He's a rich guy who inherited his father's real estate empire and expanded it. By dint of his wealth he can say anything he pleases. A lot of people get a kick out of his loose-cannon approach. But to others his scattershot style is way too much ready-fire-aim. Media reports have him calling his Republican rivals "clowns," and this from a guy who's lived his life in the tabloids.
But here's the thing: Donald Trump is a household name and that counts for a lot in politics. He polls well enough to maybe make the cut in the first Republican debate in August. The ten highest-polling candidates will take the stage in Cleveland out of a field of about fifteen. Can you imagine nine of those ten furrowing their brows as they consider the fate of the nation and Donald Trump just popping off with whatever crosses his mind? It would be fun to watch.
