School bus driver resigns; parents of students involved react

It was panic on a school bus as kids began screaming and crying after the bus driver allegedly refused to let them off because of bad behavior.

Now FOX 10 is hearing from parents whose kids were on that bus as we learn the driver has quit working for the district.

The driver resigned Tuesday amid the fallout from the incident that happened last Tuesday at a bus stop in El Mirage.

Some of the parents are glad the driver is no longer behind the wheel.

"The bus driver wouldn't let any of our kids off the bus, and he told us he didn't have to," said Barbara Soto, a grandparent.

Soto had a chance to look at the video from inside the bus. She was waiting for her three grand kids to get off the bus when the driver sped off.

"My first question was, is he on drugs? Or where is he taking the kids? It's my first thought you know," she said.

Another mom who did not want to show her face said her 7-year-old daughter was on the bus. She describes what she heard on the bus video as heartbreaking.

"Her screaming, and all the other little girls and boys screaming, it's very unreal that the bus driver would actually keep them on the bus without air conditioning," said the mother.

"I was devastated, my heart was racing, I ended up calling my cousin who lives right down the street, she came and got me and we went straight to the school," said Soto.

The driver did let the kids off once it got back to Dysart Elementary.

The district confirmed the driver has resigned, but now one parent wants more punishment.

"He needs to be charged; he needs to be taken to the courts and charged with neglect," said a mother who did not want to be identified.

The El Mirage Police Department has said that at this time the driver is not facing any charges.
