The airport says that it may be a record breaking day, the day after the Super Bowl, with the amount of people getting out of the airport and they are ready.
The countdowns on and with the Super Bowl just weeks away now, everywhere you turn at Sky Harbor the signs and banners are up, ready to greet the thousands that are expected to arrive here.
Sky Harbor Airport is ready for the day after, when they expect 180,000 travelers after the big game. That's almost 60% more than usual.
"We've been preparing for this for years, for months all of our staff have been working really hard for this big event," said Heather Lissner.
The airport has already staffed more volunteers to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be on-time. Taxi's will be increased by 50%, rental car companies have been put on alert to deal with hundreds of car returns that day, and restaurants and stores in the terminals are prepared for the onslaught of people.
"We've going to have extended store and restaurant hours for people that want to come in and want something to eat," she said
The TSA, local law enforcement, and airport operations are beefed up that day to make sure everything runs just as smoothly as possible.
Sky Harbor says that travelers follow this time line:
5 hours before the flight - check out of hotel
4 hours - return rental car
3 hours - check in at ticket counter
2 hours - get in the TSA line
1 hour - be at the departure gate
