Super Bowl XLIX: Valley high school's connection

We've found a lot of valley connections to this Super Bowl, one of them starts with a high school in Ahwatukee and two well-known athletes; the Miller brothers.

A tale of two brothers both graduated from Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee and went on to play football at Arizona State University.

One is a Seattle Seahawk, the other is his biggest fan, supporting his brother while he teaches and coaches back where it all began.

Brent Miller might seem a bit out of place in an algebra class, but Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee is where he feels right at home.

In fact he and his younger brother Zach basically grew up here on the football field.

"We were just like all our friends we would pretend to be Jim Kelly, Troy Aikman, and pretend like we're in the Super Bowl in the yard throwing footballs to each other, we did it all the time," said Brent Miller.

But not all the time, they also hit the books too.

"Top of the class 4.0 Zach, Brent had a 3.8 or 3.9, they were stellar students," said T.J. Snyder with Desert Vista HS.

Brent graduated in 2003, his brother in 2004, both went on to ASU on full ride scholarships. The NFL was a dream for both; Zach would eventually make it to the Seahawks in 2011. He's on the injured reserve this year, Miller is still with the team and his brother Brent will be there with family cheering on the Seahawks.

It's a Super Bowl connection that a lot of students are just discovering.

"Some of them heard other kids talking and they said, "Mr Miller, does your brother play for the Seahawks?" and I say yeah and they're going to the Super Bowl and it's going to be lots of fun," said Brent.

Brent Miller estimates about 15 members of the family will be at University of Phoenix Stadium, cheering for the Seattle Seahawks.

Zach Miller won't be playing, but he will get another ring if they win. He of course got a Super Bowl ring last year when the Seahawks beat Denver.
